About Lamar High School

Lamar High School, the largest International Baccalaureate World School in the world, encourages ALL students to be inquiring and knowledgeable individuals who can achieve their highest potential within an atmosphere of shared responsibility, academic challenge, intercultural understanding, and mutual respect.

The vision of Lamar High School is to provide a quality education in a safe, student-centered learning environment that facilitates high-quality educational opportunities for every student. Teachers, administrators, staff, and parents alike are charged with preparing each student to be productive citizens in a technological and global society.

WHY WE EXIST

Supporting Lamar High School

Loving Lamar (LLI) was founded in January 2020 as a collective impact partnership among Lamar High School and St. John the Divine (with support from Bethany Christian Church, St. Luke’s Methodist Church, Lamar’s Alumni group, and Lamar’s PTO).

The goal of the LLI is to intentionally live out Jesus’ commandment to love our neighbor through collaborative efforts that support Lamar High School’s students, teachers, and administrators by making connections, leveraging relationships, and providing financial and volunteer support.

PARTNER HIGHLIGHTS

reVision.jpg
Breaking The Cycle of Juvenile Justice Involvement and Homelessness

Loving Lamar is thrilled to partner with Houston reVision, sharing a commitment to mentorship and community empowerment for underserved children and youth. Houston reVision’s mission to break the cycle of juvenile justice involvement and homelessness in Harris County aligns seamlessly with our goals. By connecting youth with mentors, positive peers, and transformative resources, they make a profound impact on young lives.

For the past five years, Loving Lamar has proudly collaborated with Houston reVision, sponsoring a full-time reVision counselor on Lamar High School’s campus through SJD and private donations. This has created a highly effective model that HISD wants to replicate, especially during these transition periods of challenged budgets which have been reducing non-academic student support.

Bringing Hope & Opportunities to Houston Families Facing Crisis Situations

We'd like to give a special thanks to our partners at Christian Community Service Center (CCSC).

Thanks to this partnership, we are able to provide families at Lamar High School who are facing crisis situations with access to a variety of services, such as counselling, basic needs, resume & networking support, and much more. We are so grateful to have these incredible partners as we work toward a better, safer, more unified Lamar... and a Houston where no family is left behind!

Loving Lamar is excited to partner with The Menninger Clinic, combining our efforts to support and uplift the mental health and well-being of our students.

The Menninger Clinic has nearly 100 years of experience diagnosing and treating adults and adolescents with mental illness. Highly trained teams of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, counselors, and more provide a supportive, healing environment along with evidence-based treatments that are effective and programs that strengthen skills for making positive life changes.

Providing Beautiful Prom Attire to At-Risk Teens And Homeless Students

Loving Lamar and CareerGear have joined forces the last two school years to make prom a memorable experience for at-risk and homeless students.

Through this impactful partnership, a selection of beautiful prom attire was provided and a dedicated ‘dressing room’  was created within a Lamar High School reVision classroom. This space allowed students to try on and select their perfect outfits before the big night. For the second year in a row, this initiative was a tremendous success, bringing joy and confidence to the students we serve. We are grateful for the continued support and collaboration with CareerGear, and we look forward to many more years of making prom nights a dream come true.
